A decline in the steel industry meant there was a huge drop in the number of jobs available during the 1980's. The area had to find other ways of creating jobs.

The engineering and manufacturing sector still provides jobs in North Lincolnshire but there is unlikely to be a huge increase in jobs in the future. The industry needs to be able to recruit well qualified people who not only have good technical skills but are also good at IT, flexible and willing to learn new skills as the industry changes.
