Kevin joined Bericap from Fenners as a Teamleader, progressing to Shift Manager and then to Project Manager and now Engineering Manager. He currently has a team of 5 fitters, 2 electricians, a general labourer and 2 apprentices working for him.
In his role as Engineering Manager he has responsibility for all engineering maintenance required to support production and also for the full plant and building in terms of engineering needs. The engineering team have a very important role to play in ensuring there is minimum downtime so that the company’s production efficiency is maintained.
Kevin gets a lot of satisfaction from addressing the challenges that the job regularly throws up; being able to plan/juggle time and resources to ensure the busy production schedule remains on course and yet still achieve what needs to be done to ensure satisfied customers. He says: "I get a lot of job satisfaction from achieving what needs to be done with the people and resources that we have. You have to be able to think on your feet in this job and I enjoy the planning and problem solving that’s required".
Kevin identifies good communication skills and the ability to work well with people as being key to his role. He says "I like being able to encourage people, to know what motivates them and help them progress and achieve what they aspire to. The job’s not just about technical knowledge and skills, you have to be able to work with people and get the best out of them. That benefits the team and the whole company."
Kevin says it’s important to know what it is you want to achieve; if you can be very focused and know what you want, identify a goal and go for it, remain positive and not give up.
The more you put in, the more you will get out of it.
